Going to Mass particularly at Christmas and Easter always leaves us feeling good. Going to confession and receiving Holy Communion offers us a deep sense of God’s love within us. Such feelings place us in the crowd welcoming the Messiah into our hearts and lives. After the joy of welcoming Him comes the challenge of the sacrificial journey to Calvary; a difficult, and sometimes, overwhelming journey. We are invited to walk that same journey with Him. Look at what you are missing, the world sneeringly says to us. Going with the Lord, rather than the crowd, can be overwhelming, but arriving on Calvary causes us to turn and to say to the world; No! Look at what you are missing! There the Cross stands witnessing to the reality of God’s love. We follow Him not just in the triumph of the waving palms but in the very triumph of His Cross. Palm Sunday can be seen to be about the Lord’s triumphant entrance into Jerusalem and His sorrowful exit to Calvary, but this is one event: one call to follow Him wherever He leads us both in joy and in sorrow. May this Holy Week lead us to a new deeper and warmer experience of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. All glory laud and honour to You redeemer King!

… to You, now high exalted, our melody we raise!
