Fond Farewell and Welcome Home

Fond Farewell

We were glad to welcome Fr Darren Carden to stay in the presbytery in March, at the beginning of lockdown. It’s been wonderful to know that there was a priest in the parishes, following the Church’s daily rhythm of prayer in our midst. Those of us who have attended the daily and Sunday Mass have valued it beyond expression – even when we’ve had problems with internet connections, Zoom collapsing or Father’s iPad playing up.  Easter was unforgettable this year! This week, we say farewell as he moves out on Thursday. Thank you so much for being here, we’ll miss you and hope to see you again.

Welcome Home

Fr Luiz is coming home on Friday. He’s booked a flight for Thursday night, arriving early hours of Friday morning, and will be travelling back to the presbytery later that day. We pray for a safe and uneventful journey and look forward to seeing him (virtually) among us again next week. Welcome home, Fr Luiz!

First Profession of Sister Katherine Mary of Jesus Crucified

Some of you will remember Katherine Daniels, one of our parishioners several years ago. She joined the community at the Carmelite Monastery in Dolgellau, Wales in 2017 and will be taking the First Profession of her vows at the Carmelite Monastery in Dolgellau, Wales on Sunday 7 June at 11 am. Please keep her and her community in your prayers on what will be a very special day for them.

Uganda21

The sixth formers and staff of Our Lady’s Catholic College who were part of the Uganda20 project were very sad when the trip was cancelled for this year. However, the good news is that we have not lost any money on flights or accommodation and we are hoping and praying that we may be able to go in July 2021 – with the same group. Although we had to cancel several planned fund-raising events, they have still managed to raise over £14,000 and may be able to add to this sum next year. We have already sent some of this money to the Health Clinic and we have also sent money over to our partnered vocational school, The Home of Divine Mercy, which has had to be closed during the current lockdown. They have used the money to send out food packages to the homes of the children who are missing the meals they were supplied with at the school. Thank you once again for your support. Ruth Lowe

Parish Finances

None of us can physically attend our churches at the moment, so your offertory envelopes can’t be collected.  You may want to think about supporting our parishes at this time by setting up a standing order or occasional payment through your bank, as we and the Diocese still have expenses to meet.

To set up a standing order for regular payments, please download and print the appropriate form, complete it and send it to your bank.

St Mary’s Standing Order  St Joseph’s Standing Order

If you bank online, and wish to make an occasional or regular payment, then please use the parish bank details from one of those pdfs.

Very many thanks, Betty Byrne.

God bless, stay home, stay well.
